Just Published: Mangrove ecosystem services and the potential for carbon revenue programmes in Solomon Islands

The article "Mangrove ecosystem services and the potential for carbon revenue programmes in Solomon Islands" just published in Environmental Conservation (citation below) looks at how payments for ecosystem services (PES) can be used to protect mangroves in the Solomon Islands. The article also offers valuation data saying that villages in the area gain US$ 345–1501 per household annually from mangroves.

Value of Hawaiian Coral: $33.5 Billion

In their news release on October 21, 2011 NOAA reveals the findings of their national survey looking at how Americans value Hawaiian coral reefs. The survey shows Americans have an estimated total economic value of $33.5 billion for Hawaii's reefs.
