ESP Tropical Forests Working Group

Invite only

Welcome to the ESP Tropical Forests Working Group page!

Background
The ES-Partnership is a network organization that will link practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders around the world who are working toward better understanding, modeling, valuation and management of ecosystem services and natural capital.
ESP aims to enhance communication, coordination and cooperation, while building a strong network of individuals and organizations.

One of the partnership's current goals is to create an ecosystem service assessment network per biome that will enhance data exchange and develop guidelines for policy and research.
As announced during the ESP conference 2011 early October ESP is working on setting up these Working Groups organised around Biomes and Themes.  The purpose is to create a global network of active working groups within ESP in which people knowledgeable about Ecosystem Services in specific biomes (forests, wetlands, grasslands, coral reefs etc.) or on specific themes (indicators, mapping, modelling, valuation etc) work together effectively. ESP will provide space on the website for each Working Group to have discussions and help secure any other support they would need throughout its network.

The Thematic and the Biome working groups will consist of several of coordinating members, but the proces is envisioned to be open. Working groups will consist of an organising committee with a chair, webmanager(s) and discussion group leader(s)  who will coordinate and facilitate the communication amongst members and active members and the WG's activities.

The Tropical forest working group will work on the issues related to sustainable ecosystem management and ecosystem services of tropical forests.
At this moment the coordinating members are exploring options for organisation  and the first activities. An update will follow next month.
