PAPERS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

  1. “Concept” paper

Lead: Sue Lurie

Purpose: Describe the problem domain; identify knowledge gaps; note preliminary findings; anticipate research to come. Provide springboard for subsequent papers.

Content ideas and notes:

  1. Build from proposal! (De-emphasize methods)
  2. Knowledge of public utilities is sparse, needed for background
  3. Transnational corporations dominate literature – gaps in understanding local marketplaces, and niches/roles for local/small businesses
  4. Surveys suggest importance of social acceptability and trust; also of local investment (sense of place)
  5. Interview coding process might help sort qualitative data into chunks/themes eg. Farm Bill programs, conservation easements, farmer attitudes

Possible journals: BioScience, Environmental Management, Frontiers in Ecology, Society and Natural Resources, Ecology and Society.

 

  1. Rural-urban divide

Purpose: Describe and analyze the standoff apparent through surveys and interviews, as barriers to implementation.

Content ideas and notes:

  1. Could PES programs help unify rural and urban communities? Or only divide them further?
  2. What is the role of collaborative conservation? Outreach and engagement?
